The Menorah

Our Identity
The Menorah, a gold lampstand with six branches and a center trunk, represents the seven festivals God told the Israelites to observe. It's also seen as a symbolic guide to Jesus' life, detailing his birth, death, burial, resurrection, and eventual return.
Jesus discussed this idea, explaining how the Scriptures, starting from Moses and the Prophets, contain references to Him.
Jesus explained this, “… beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24:27)

The Seven lights of the Menorah speak of seven feasts that shine Jesus.

  1. Passover (Freedom): Passover celebrates God freeing His people from Egypt using a sacrificial lamb. Jesus is seen as this lamb, sacrificing Himself on the cross during Passover to free us from spiritual bondage.
  2. Unleavened Bread (Answer to Prayer): During this feast, people ate bread without yeast and prayed for God's blessings. Jesus' death and resurrection, happening at the same time as this festival, are viewed as answers to these prayers.
  3. First Fruits (Resurrection): This festival, happening three days after Passover, involves offering the first spring harvest to God. Jesus is considered the 'first fruit' as He was resurrected on this date, symbolizing the first to rise from the dead.
  4. Feast of Pentecost (God’s Word): Occurring fifty days after First Fruits, Pentecost commemorates when Moses received God’s Word. Similarly, fifty days after Jesus’ death, it is believed His Spirit delivered God’s Word, as described in the Book of Acts.
  5. Feast of Trumpets (Returning King): This festival involves blowing trumpets to celebrate a king's return. It is associated with Jesus’ promised return to Earth, accompanied by trumpet sounds.
  6. Day of Atonement (Priest/Scapegoat): On this day, a priest symbolically transfers the people's sins to a scapegoat, which is then released. Jesus is seen as fulfilling this role, taking on humanity's sins and entering God's presence, symbolized by the tearing of the temple curtain at His death.
  7. Feast of Tabernacles (Immanuel, God with Us): This autumn festival, featuring a Menorah, celebrates God's desire to dwell among His people. It is believed that Jesus was born on this date, symbolizing God living among humans.
